What should you visit in Kyiv?  

 

Kyiv Pechersk Lavra
   The Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra is the first and the oldest monastery on the territory of modern Ukraine. Only three monasteries in Ukraine currently have the status of lavra and consecrated in honor of the Dormition of the Mother of God  - Kyiv-Pechersk, Pochayiv and Sviatohirsk. This testifies about the special reverence of Holy God’s Mother from Orthodox Christians, as well as the connection of the monasticism in Russia and the ancient monastery of the Dormition of the God’s Mother on Mount Athos.

 

Saint Sophia's Cathedral

St. Sophia Cathedral, Holy Wisdom of God Cathedral, St. Sophia in Kyiv is a Christian cathedral in the center of Kyiv. It is a monument of Ukrainian architecture and monumental painting of the second decade of the 11th (1011–1018). This is one of the few surviving buildings of the Kyivan Rus’ time. This is one of the most important Christian shrines in Western Europe, the historical center of Kyiv Metropolis.

 

National Museum of the Holodomor Victims Memorial

The memorial to the Holodomor victims in Ukraine is a complex located in the park of Glory over the Dnieper in Kyiv. The monument was built in honor of the dead in 1932-1933. This museum was built in accordance with a project that was developed by Haydamak specifically for the 70th anniversary of the Holodomor in 2008.

 

Literary and Memorial Museum of Michail Bulgakov

  

The Mikhail Bulgakov Museum was opened in the so-called Turbini House, where the writer lived from 1906 to 1919 and where the placed the heroes of the White Guard.

The interiors of the rooms are reproduced in the same way as they shown on the photographs and as they were described by Bulgakov himself: the living room with the piano, the medical room, the room of the writer's sister, Vari, as well as the room of the Bulgakov himself and the room of the novel’s hero Nicholas, where you can get through wardrobe with N50, from the novel Master and Margarita.

 

Museum of one street

The Kyiv water Museum

The Kyiv water museum is located in the center of Kyiv near Khreshchatyk and Maidan Nezalezhnosti, so this place is one of the most popular in the capital. The museum is located in one of the water towers, whose age is more than 130 years.

Kyiv in Miniature

Park Kyiv in Miniature is a great place to relax, if you want to spend time away from the city rush, but at the same time, without leaving the city itself.

It was opened in the park-museum in 2006, and it is located on the banks of the Dnieper, in the Hidropark area. Here are collected the most famous monuments of Kyiv in the form of the miniature models. 

 

 

National Park Mezhygirya – Museum of Corruption

The residence became a symbol of oligarchic and criminal power, an indicator of the lifestyle of Ukrainian Nouveau riche. The museum is unique because of its theme and because of the value of things that are gathered in it.

 

The Kyiv Fortress

The fortress belonged to the Western-Russian line of fortifications. The museum has about 17 thousand exhibits. Hospital fortification of the Kyiv fortress is semi-underground buildings with thick walls of brick and stone.

 

House with Chimaeras

This building is one of the most extravagant works of architect Wladyslaw Horodecki, build in the house where he lived until 1920. On the side of Ivan Franko's square, it is a six-stored house from the side of Bankova street it is three-stored – it was the front side, where were located the apartment of Wladyslaw Horodecki, himself and his construction office. From the walls of the house speak the heads of elephants and rhinoceros on the roof sit chimeras, and the river goddess Naiads swims on dolphins. The style is romantic, new modernist, and it was expressed in the new material - reinforced concrete in which was done all the decor.

 

 

The National Opera House of Ukraine named after Taras Shevchenko in Kyiv

The Kyiv Academic Theatre of Drama and Comedy

The theater works in two languages - Russian and Ukrainian (the play "Deceit" by Vladimir Vynnychenko (1992, directed by Alexander Balaban) became the first Ukrainian performance shown in the Russian-language theater).

 

The Mykola Hryshko National Botanical Garden

The botanical garden covers an area of 130 hectares on the right bank of the Dnieper River. In the garden grows more than 10 thousand varieties, kinds and forms of plants of the most different quality: decorative, vegetable, fodder, medicinal and many others, collected from all corners of the world.

 

The Feofanya Park

Feofaniya Park is today the youngest and the most promising place of rest for Kyiv citizens and city guests. The park is part of the natural reserve fund of Ukraine, which is an integral part of the world system of natural territories and objects under special protection. The state institution of the Institute of Evolutionary Ecology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is taking care of this lands.
